Save the Date Announcements

Save the date announcements are exciting for your loved ones! You officially let everyone know they’re invited to be a part of your special day. This announcement might include the wedding location and basic information with a note like – A formal invitation to follow.

Naturally, you want to WOW your friends and family with this exciting news, so here's the lovely lowdown on incorporating save the dates in the process of wedding planning.

When should you send the date announcement?

Traditionally, save the date cards are mailed 6-12 months before your wedding day. If you secure your date and the venue earlier, plan a destination wedding, invite people who live far away OR have guests who are really busy (like me), it's fine to send a save the date announcement earlier.

If you can't give at least six months' notice, it's fine also. Just make sure the save the dates are sent as soon as possible.

How should you send save the date cards?

You can send your save the dates by mail, deliver them by hand or digitally. These days, electronic save the dates are just as popular as they are affordable, a little more kind to the environment and arrive fast. Just know-- getting a stylish save the date card on luxury paper in the mailbox is pretty special too!

What else should be considered?

If you have a theme or color palette for your wedding, it should be reflected in the save the date announcement and wedding stationery that will follow from the invitations to the dinner menu cards at the reception. In the early days of wedding planning (and you might not know this yet), if things are uncertain…

Go for simple and minimalistic.

Many couples like to feature a photo of themselves on the save the date cards. Booking a professional engagement photoshoot can be a great idea to share new images you can use on this special announcement. You can even use the images on the wedding invitation, wedding website and even display them on the wedding day. What a great excuse to get dressed up and have a fun photo session!
